we say i...t is like that only.........From the birth we are used to quite on the situations...it starts from the family...Papa says...ye sab nahi poochte...mummy says...aisa poocha to pitai lagegi....teacher actually beats when u asked out of the way question..........so we become so irreponsive to the system that we do not ask or challenge the situation............This is the thing which makes us different from the world........thats why anybody like SIbble, Manmohan, Chindu, Pranav, Lalu, Mulayam, Mayawati etc....they make us fool...because we do not challenge them..........the day we start asking question and challenge them....our India will be changed.......We will not see anybody Rahul - any history anywhere in the world....I salute to Ms. Mayawati....to spend the public hard earned money like this...if she really care of people can reduce the petrol tax....we are living in an era where these politicians are like the self acclaimed GOD.....We have some more like Chidambram, Sibba, Mukharji and above all Manmohan.....I am not able to understand that why it all happening...? why the common people can not see the simple and basic things and giving votes to these people again and again.......Is there some fault in the Election Process.........something needs to be done...who will do it...what it will be...is a big question....................I have written many times " Ye kalyug hai yahan koi bhagwan nahi aaega" but today I also wish that God you have to come...there is no alternate....:( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Airtel is seeming Inspired by the UPA government, doing nothing and making false promises....2nd time in a month Internet is not Manmohan Singh has said a "critical" review of the Right To Information Act is necessary as information provided through it should not “adversely affect the delivery process in governance”.Singh has said “bringing opinions in public scrutiny” can discourage officials from giving “honest and full views”.The Prime Minister has, however, said he was against any dilution of the RTI Act.<br Earth......What a destiny we have........to have such a person as our prime minister....Thanks to congress and also the BJP ( most ridiculous people party)...This country needs revolution....Anna ji i would like to say one thing that people do not say that " No vote for Congress" please say that guys come ahead and join politics and bring the reform...this is what is needed........you need to take step........

Otherwise in the present scenario Congress can again come in the center and if it happen this time we will be dictated like anything by these bunch of Slaves of Calibri,serif;">Everybody( i.e. Institutes and Universities) claim that they are number one and once a person take admission he knows the actual truth and then he becomes very negative. If some of these information can be provided with a proper research base then atleast person will be knowing that what exactly he will be getting in campus and prepare himself accordingly.

Information availability in local language : This is one of the another aspect that the client in education system is not student, it is the parent which ultimately need to buy the product. Still 70-75% parent are comfortable with their own language, they do not understand English. This is one of the bigger challenge to put all that information in the local language and make that available to the mass of audience.

Affordability: In last few years the cost of getting education has increased phenomenally ( upto 10 times in some segment). Very challenging for lower middle class to cope up with the same.

Trust and Credibility: This is one of the important factor one need to understand. It take years to create trust and it took minutes in which trust goes away. Whatever the business model, it should have room around a certain level of trust and credibility that should not be that high which can be broken with a single instance but a moderate one so that a large segment can believe us.

Course Structure and Industry Academia Interface:

A management student have to study 52 papers in 20 months time, each paper has got 30-35 sessions, (1.25 Hrs per session).

These institutes are in connection with major corporate, students think and treat these as employment exchange, campus placement is the main attraction for students.

Engg and Management students in private Institute take private tuitions at hoe or in coaching centers.

The parents pay abnormal money to put their kid in Engg and MBA institute as if thinking that they will get Nirvana, which is not actually true.

Employability: A few years back McKinsey-Nasscom report came out that India needs quality man power, but here again McKinsey said that only 25% of the grads are employable, to be honest only 15% are employable the balance is all junk product. Few more survey on the same line and length showed that only 4% of the Indian graduated youth is workable on the development and research job and rest 20% which NASSCOM says employable can work in ITES companies.

 	Employment: In India we are majorly dealing with middle class or lower middle class. In that segment, the person who is going for a higher education degree might be first generation engineer/doctor. His family puts all his saving/land in the education of the student. If after completion there are no job options it hearts lot of people. That’s why we have a huge demand of skill oriented courses which can lead to immediate job with these higher technical education degree programs.

 	Government Policies: In India we are still living in the license raj in the education system and we have multiple regulatory bodies which take care of the affiliation process, course curriculum, semester system etc. All this is not created as per the current demand but it is created as per some old people in the government system who might not seen any industry in their lifetime.

 	Lack of Interaction with each other i.e. Collaboration : This is another important aspect in which these campuses has failed. Now we are living in a global word and even the big companies are doing merger, acquisition, collaborations, partnerships, joint ventures, innovative business models to support each other. But these so called big campuses have not talked with each other. There are various initiatives which can be done in the come with the collaboration.\

 		Just for an example : If I have a do a fest in collaboration with 5-6 campuses of greater noida, then it might be the biggest institute level event in Asia or may be in the world with the participation of more than 1 lac people physically and 4-5 lac people online.

 		Placement Drive: If one need to do a placement drive for the UP technical students then we need to hire pragati maidan for the same and we can have the biggest placement pool campus in this world.

p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } Quality Education: In the higher education the private engineering and management colleges has come up, but there is a very big question mark, that's the quality of students and the quality of faculty. In India most of the people who started the educational institute did not know about the technical education. Because of high growth there were a dearth of good quality people who can run the system well and which ultimately leads to the lack of quality problems at each step in the technical education scenario.
The root cause of most of the above problems is lack of information. This system needs a platform which can address most of the above issues at single place.

A practical approach to entrepreneurship through higher education.

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> One of the major contributors in this growth is the growth in the Higher Education system in India due to involvement of the private investment. Now the focus of Higher Education is moving towards to create not only world-class research programs but also very highly trained scholars, scientists, or managers to sustain high-tech development.
One more area which our Higher education system should give a thought is the Entrepreneurship. Though Entrepreneurship is in very nascent stage in India, but it is one of the important forces behind the creation of modern day business conglomerates globally. Entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in pursuit of growth and development goals of every economy.

We as a society has been developed to do the service work only. Most of our education system teaches us that how can one become a good follower. Sometimes we take it as a pride because it is the base of Service Industry in India. But in order to maintain sustain development and growth charter we need to innovate, we need to come up with new ideas, we need to push hard to build solutions not only services. All of the above can be done by the modern edge entrepreneurship and Higher Education system can play a very vital role in that.

As we know most of the people pursuing higher education in India are first generation Engineers/Managers. These first generation Engineers and Managers needs to be motivated to take the path of Entrepreneurship and also educate them for the various challenges and opportunity in the same via workshops, training programs etc.

Emerging Technologies like Information and Communication technologies are defining the emergence of knowledge driven first generation entrepreneurs on the scale which has no precedence in the human history. In the last 30 years first generation entrepreneur from world and many of them from India has emerged as a global business leader.

In India, we have just started our journey for the Entrepreneurship and we need to help these entrepreneurs to have a favorable environment. Some of these challenges can be listed as Space, Knowledge, Finance, Branding and Marketing, Mentor/Advisors, Services, Human Resource, and Joint Initiatives.

Higher Education System can help them in each of the above domain while fulfilling their objective of creating world class techno-managerial man power. So a effective way to reduce this problem is to learn some of the skilled course as per the interests and get an certification in those which proves you ahead in the competition.

INDIA is moving toward vision India2020 and counting on high-tech industries to which can take nation to economic success and modernization. Unfortunately, our weak higher education system seems to be major hurdle in this mission. Private Investments in higher education in recent years has yielded not world-class research programs nor very highly trained engineers or managers to create a enviornment for the technological growth.

Other countries — especially China but also Singapore, Taiwan, and South Korea — are investing in large and create a sustained higher education systems. These countries are creating some world class research based universities and also trying to provide the access to large numbers of students at the bottom of the academic system.

What India have:

India has significant advantages in the 21st century knowledge race.

  Third Largest Education sector for Higher Education in terms of students number after China and the United States.

  English as a primary language of higher education and research.

  Natural Logical/Mathematical Capabilities

  More than Rs. 50000 Cr. Investment from pvt. sector in the education space in last 10 years.

  Dreaming Middle Class which has only power as Higher Education to change their status.

Yet the weaknesses far outweigh the strengths.

Only 10% of its young people goes fro higher education compared with more than 50% in major industrialized countries and 15 per cent in China.

In most of the counties a significant number reaches to the top-tier and a massive quality man power at bottom. In India we have a very thin layer at top and bottom is full of un-employable man power. None of its universities occupies a solid position at the top.

What our top Technical Institutes students are doing :

The difference between our top Institution and Second Layer of Institution is huge, we can imagin the situation of third layer of Institutes. Though we have some world-class institutions like IITs, IIMs, AIMS, IISC, ISB and perhaps a few others. These institutions, combined, enroll well under 1 per cent of the total enrolled student population.

Even this small top tier of higher education does not contribute in the Higher Education in India. Most of the IIT graduates, well trained in technology, chose not to contribute their skills to the technology sector in India. Perhaps half leave the country immediately upon graduation to pursue advanced study abroad — and most do not return. Another significant group, of about 30 per cent, decides to earn MBAs in India because of higher salaries are higher — and are lost to science and technology.

Faculty is another big challenge this country is facing. IITs, IIMs does have a top breed of faculty but because of Higher Research opportunity and consulting projects they are leaving the country. Including these top tier institutes, Faculty shortage is one of the challenges in front of Higher Technical education systems.

E-learning, Certifications and Online Degree can play a vital role in the present scenario :

Students need to come forward and take steps in their learning processes. We can not always blam the system for our scenario. We also need to look on an alternative. It will take another 20-25 years to India to come upto the mark of World standards of technical and higher education. So why to wait and re-invent the wheel when we can learn at our desktop. * There is nothing new innovation in this world - Every Innovation is build on something and there is always add on that.
o Formula for innovation = (k+I) i.e. knowledge + information where this + is more important that how you club those.
o Examples can be If you see in our publication - Print is one thing and Portal if you club both like put small information in print and details on portal. Than students can use both print and portal.
* There are always small innovations which everybody has in their minds but do not implement.
* There is very good thing he says in between - You should have faith in your idea but not over confidence. See you as a small enterprise, do small things and be happy and then consolidate all those small to make a big venture.
* 20% of Google Employees in world think that there company is giving them space to innovate. this number is less than 2% for rest other companies where that person went. I want our all people should think that we are doing innovation and Infact do so..........
* Creativity is just a process to make idea into implementation and execution.
* Speaker of that session is writer and He sold his 250000 books by himself. He writes, publish and then sell the books. He had used all the innovative technique to sell and find those useful.The Biggest thing he told that his customer are brand ambassador and they help to get new ideas and also to increase books. He usually spend $5000-$10000 per month for prizing the user and he has just 7 employees.
* About entrepreneurship he showed a picture of his childhood in which he was naked and rolling in dust....he told entrepreneur is like that he start and then down, get dust and again pick up and start running......

There are many small examples he showed to share this but if you see the whole thing....just small innovation in our day to day work can make huge changes in overall organizations and also in the self improvement. I am just referring to some of the things which need immediate innovations/improvement and want to have ideas and thoughts from all of you.

* Subscription Drive - Associating Students
* Corporate Ads -
* Content of Magazine
* Online promotion
* Events/Activities
* Online content
* Survey and Schemes
* Others

I want people not just read this mail but come up with the ideas however wired we will listen and see how we can implement those.

I hope that all of us start doing innovation in day to day life and work......

Cheers
Sachin Jain
----------------------------------------------
B.Tech UPTU + M.Tech, IIT Roorkee
---------------------------------------------
UPTU WATCH
Director Relationships
www.uptuwatch.com
+91-9540055241
--------------------------------
P-83, Pandav Nagar
Mayur Vihar Phase - 1
Tel: 011-22752423

Beleive it or Not...

Most of the Extraordinary achievements comes in life only when you are not making living(means your earning) out of that.........

Good of Bad Times.........

In good economic times, everyone wants to fly or we can say everyone wants to maximize everything they had (the basics of Capitalism). Obama said that it is not the time to get into the discussion of Capitalism but I say it is the correct time to learn the lesson from the aftereffects of Capitalism.

There are always some good of bad times. Truly, it's very painful stuff for everyone involved, but you eventually get to the other side of it all. There are two way how system changes, one is by the people and another is by itself. When it changes itself it becomes tough for the people involved in it but the outcome might be more superior and satisfying.

One consensus example we hear frequently is the last dot-com bust ( 2000-2001) -- the bones of which (cheap fibre and web technology) laid the groundwork for much of what we see today in the web 2.0 world. At that time, everyone wanted to start a web company and make money out of that but because of the access of the people working for the same thing and the process they were following it bursts. But the backbone that time makes created the requirement of web to everybody; people come out some of the innovative ideas like networking, sharing and use of IT in business.
Last year we saw the beginning of the bust, but this time it is bigger then the dot-com one. Many still have apprehensions about what 2009 might bring. We watch and wait, wondering whether the economy will simply bounce back, or whether last year was only the beginning of the downswing. Business groups are wary, and predict a slow start to the year. Some are optimistic, while others are hedging their bets and playing it safe.
Some of the good things which are happening in this bad times are :

1. Narrows the focus – this time companies are thinking to do that only in which they are the best and also trying to come out something which can be the best for their customer in terms of technology, cost effectiveness and customized as per the needs.
   2. Improves the team – Great managers always believe that its both people and results that are important. It is not either/or. So often in hard times, managers need to work hard to prepare the team and select the right people for right work. Bright people may be cheap as well in these time which helps in making great teams.
3. To invest in all that large-scale stuff – In tough time cheap automobiles, real estate, luxury goods, airplane travel, From an IT perspective, hardware and Software. So it is the time for lots of people to invest in the technology and systems. Investment should accelerate in technologies and services that save money and create substantial value; marginal offerings will languish
4. Innovation/Alteration -Creative free or low cost ways to replace old expensive solutions. This is the time for people to find the ways to save money and sometimes it results in unique solutions. For eg: Telepresence solution is a hot topic these days -- it's less about effective collaboration, and more about staying off airplanes -- same idea, use technology to run the business better.
  5. The needs of others – The only way to survive in these times is to find the need of the others. Like we know how telephone phone discovered and so many other things because of the need. Vendors that can work with customers to achieve clear business objectives, rather than just sell product, do very well indeed.

  6. Appreciative Inquiry – People don’t just push the ideas on employees but ask them what more they can do, how can be the part of tough times.
   7. Re-engineering business processes and workflow – In good times we get many luxurious process and flows which sometimes are not needed. These are corrected in these times.
  8. People go to academics: It is another point that wise people go for studies in these times so that they can get good time and opportunity when good times come.
9. Remember the basics: For the country like India, we very early forget our roots/ethos/cultures. These are the times to remember that all and also try to find out where we were wrong to adapt those things which was never ours and hopefully which will never be ours.

Tough times come and go–things go up and down, never stays. You can prepare yourself for tough times by becoming wiser (rather than wasting) in good times. These times are painful, yes, but al least there's an element of good to all of this if you think about it.

Comments are welcome!

Need of the Higher Edcation : Why and How?

To compete successfully in the knowledge-based economy of the 21st century, We should not focused only Clerical Jobs but also try to be Technological Independent by providing research opportunities in India via higher studies.

Need of the Higher Education:

INDIA is headlong toward economic success and modernization, counting on high-tech industries to name a few are IT, Automobile and biotechnology to propel the nation to prosperity. Unfortunately, its weak higher education system is the major hurdle in the technological growth. Its systematic disinvestment in higher education in recent years has yielded not world-class research programs nor very highly trained scholars, scientists, or managers to sustain high-tech development.

There was a time when countries could achieve economic success with cheap labor and low-tech manufacturing. Low wages still help, but contemporary large-scale development requires a sophisticated and at least partly knowledge-based economy.

What world is doing for higher Education :

India's main competitors — especially China but also Singapore, Taiwan, and South Korea — are investing in large and differentiated higher education systems. They are providing access to large numbers of students at the bottom of the academic system while at the same time building some research-based universities that are able to compete with the world's best institutions. The recent London Times Higher Education Supplement ranking of the world's top 200 universities included three in China, three in Hong Kong, three in South Korea, one in Taiwan, and one in India (an Indian Institute of Technology at number 41— the specific campus was not specified). These countries are positioning themselves for leadership in the knowledge-based economies of the coming era.

What India have:

India has significant advantages in the 21st century knowledge race. It has a large higher education sector — the third largest in the world in student numbers, after China and the United States. It uses English as a primary language of higher education and research. It has a long academic tradition. Academic freedom is respected.

We have a small number of high quality institutions, departments, and centers that can form the basis of quality sector in higher education. The fact that the States, rather than the Central Government, exercise major responsibility for higher education creates a rather cumbersome structure, but the system allows for a variety of policies and approaches.

Yet the weaknesses far outweigh the strengths. India educates approximately 10 per cent of its young people in higher education compared with more than half in the major industrialized countries and 15 per cent in China. Almost all of the world's academic systems resemble a pyramid, with a small high quality tier at the top and a massive sector at the bottom. India has a tiny top tier. None of its universities occupies a solid position at the top.

What our top Technical Institutes students are doing :

We have some world-class institutions like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and perhaps a few others such as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. These institutions, combined, enroll well under 1 per cent of the student population.

Even the small top tier of higher education faces serious problems. Many IIT graduates, well trained in technology, have chosen not to contribute their skills to the burgeoning technology sector in India. Perhaps half leave the country immediately upon graduation to pursue advanced study abroad — and most do not return. A stunning 86 per cent of students in science and technology fields from India who obtain degrees in the United States do not return home immediately following their study. Another significant group, of about 30 per cent, decides to earn MBAs in India because local salaries are higher — and are lost to science and technology. A corps of dedicated and able teachers work at the IITs and IIMs, but the lure of jobs abroad and in the private sector makes it increasingly difficult to lure the best and brightest to the academic profession.

How to make a system for the Higher Education in India :

For me it looks like that in present scenario, we do not need the people with higher education. This statement looks odd to you guys after reading the above stuff to support the higher education, but this is true and makes sense. Just give it a thought to my statement that how many Industries require people with Masters and Phd’s in their organization. In India you can count them and that’s why people who do the MS/Phd’s from outside India prefers to stay there only, do not want to come back because here there is no work for them.

Industries have to come up with their need in research and also support the system for the higher education. For higher education their should be adequate grant to the student and also enough research opportunity while doing the course and after the course. Our industry have focused only on the service industry jobs not beyond that.

Presently what happen, if someone does Masters or PHD in some field from IITs than the major probability is that he will not get any suitable job for him. So either he decide to go out or change his working area. That is the reason most of the Indian students do not go for the higher studies. They complete their graduation and go for jobs because after Masters they will be treated at the same position as they were after graduation, they might not be treated specially because of their higher education because Industry does not have work for them.

It is a cycle of system, If industry requires higher educated people it will invest in the universities and also start research programs. No university can afford the higher research programs by the contributions of government, alumni supports or fee. To support the high technical R&D the industries needs to come with the universities and fund the students, labs and infrastructure needed. When that type of the system will be in existence than only people will be motivated for Higher Studies in technical field.

Focusing only on the Clerical (referring to the outsourced work by cheap labor ) work will not make India successful in the knowledge-based economy until we are self dependent in the Technological Aspects.

It is the Industry responsibility to provide opportunity for the R&D in India so that more students can focus on the Higher Education and work to make India a Technological Independent Country.
